Budget Phones Now Feature Generative AI with the MediaTek Dimensity 8300.

Following the release of its flagship Dimensity 9300 SoC, MediaTek is extending generative AI capabilities to budget smartphones. The newly introduced Dimensity 8300 shares the same cutting-edge feature as its premium counterpart, bringing advanced technology to more affordable devices.

The latest upper mid-range System-on-Chip (SoC) is crafted on a second-generation 4nm process, incorporating a CPU with a single Cortex-A715 core operating at 3.35GHz. Complementing this, the core configuration includes three Cortex-A715 cores at 3GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores running at 2.2GHz. MediaTek asserts that this CPU exhibits a 20% increase in speed compared to its predecessor and delivers a 30% improvement in battery efficiency.

The enhanced Mali-615 MC6 GPU, featured in the latest iteration, showcases a noteworthy 60% boost in performance and a 55% increase in efficiency, as reported by MediaTek. These advancements position the GPU as exceptionally adept for mobile gaming.

Empowered by its APU 780 AI chipset, the Dimensity 8300 can seamlessly accommodate large language models with up to 10 billion parameters. While the chipset’s proficiency in generative AI is yet to be fully disclosed by MediaTek, it’s worth noting the inclusion of Stable Diffusion support.

Furthermore, the chip boasts compatibility with LPDDR5X RAM, offering speeds of up to 8,533 Mbps, a crucial element, as per MediaTek, for optimizing the performance of Large Language Models (LLMs). Additionally, it introduces 4K/60 FPS HDR video capabilities for enhanced optics, complemented by AI features to elevate picture quality. It should be noted that the chipset does not support 8K video recording, and in terms of displays, it caters to WQHD+ resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate.

The inaugural smartphones equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 SoC are anticipated to debut by the year’s end. Among these, the Redmi K70e is a potential candidate, as suggested by previous leaks. However, it is worth noting that other members of the K70 family are projected to feature Qualcomm chips.
